The five basic tenets of ASAP have not changed since its inception. They are: the value of early diagnosis; limiting the spread of the epidemic through traditional public health intervention strategies such as confidential and voluntary partner notification programs; a compassionate response to anyone affected, infected or ill; the development of treatments, diagnostics, vaccines, and hopefully a cure; and addressing access to health care in respect to HIV infection. ASAP's Children's Assistance Fund has provided tangible help to families impacted by HIV disease. In addition, ASAP has sponsored a series of seminars to promote investment in companies developing treatments, vaccines, diagnostics, and other HIV-related products with the goal of facilitating assistance to those infected. As a broadbased citizens organization, ASAP sponsors conferences to educate a wide spectrum of professionals and others interested in HIV disease; provides speakers for seminars, conferences, and training sessions; and publishes materials designed to be practical tools for those seeking to become involved in helping stop the spread of infection and its effects on society. ASAP is also a CDC grantee under the NAIEP initiative with national organizations. Americans for a Sound AIDS/HIV Policy P.O. Box 17433 Washington, DC 20041 703/471-7350
