For a thyng es fouler þat may file, Line 2348 Þan þe thyng þat it fyles, and mare vile, Þarfor says clerkes of grete cunnyng, Þat syn es swa foule and swa grisly thyng, Þat if a man mught properly se his syn Line 2352 In þe kynd lyknes þat it falles be in, He shuld for ferdnes titter it fle Þan any devel þat he mught se; Here may men se and undirstande Line 2356 How foul es syn and how fylande. Bot men sese noght ne knawes what it es, Þarfor men dredes it wele þe les. Bot if a synful myght se with-oute Line 2360 How foul þe syn es, þat he bers oboute, He suld never make ioy ne haf lykyng, Until he war delyverd of þat foul thyng. Sen [The MS. reads Syn.] þe devel þus has tane his uglines Line 2364 Of þe filth of syn, þat swa filand es, Þan aght þe saul of synful with-in Be ful foule þat es alle slotered in syn; Þarfor a man aght, war-so he wendes, Line 2368 Mare drede syn þan þe syght of fendes, Þat sal aper til hym at his dede day. Bot his syn he sal se fouler þan þay, Of whilk he wald noght hym right shrife. Line 2372 Ne repent hym here in his lyfe.
