therin wherof such thyngez shuld serue. The which answerd hym & sayd: "First, for þe outragez [So in MS.; read outrageouz.] hight of housez, loue & Iustice can nott be long a towne emong þe people." And þai sayd, þe pittez & grauez wer þair awne housez, to þe whiche þat þai shuld sone go to, and þer dwelle vnto þe day of Iugement. And as tochyng that thai hed no Iuge, þai sayd, þai made good Iustice of þem-self, wherfore þai nede no Iuge. Thenne Alexander departed from þaim [MS. þaim them.] right well pleasyd.
And afore hys deth, he wrote a letter vnto hys moder, desering hir to make no sorow for hym. And sone aftir Alexander died & was putt in a coffre of gold, & buried in alexandria with grete reuerence by princez & oþer grete lordez that keped [MS. kepeth.] & fulfillyd hys testa|ment as he had ordeigned: thenne stert vp one of þe grettest lordez of þaim that kept [MS. kepth.] hym, and sayd þus: "Thay þat neuer . . .
