                                  In Lumbardy, þere þou myght beste,
                                
                                  Thou slewe my men wyth sorowe and care,
                                
                                  And y myselfe was woundyd thare.

                                  I schall the ȝylde, yf þat y may.
                                
                                  I the warne, wyth all my myght
                                
                                  Here y wyll wyth the fyght.

                                  Or y be vengyd on the swythe.'
                                
                                  ¶ Gye turned the hedde of hys stede.
                                
                                  They faght togedur gode spede.

                                  That þe pecys flewe in þe feldes.
                                
                                  The dewke smote so syr Gye
                                
                                  On the schelde smertlye,
