Þe pouer man goþ bifor þe, Al idriid als a tre, And grediþ: "louerd, help me, Hunger [hungre] me hauiþ ibund. Let me dei pur charite, Ibroȝt ich am to grund." So mot i þe and crist ise: If he dei [die] þat stund, His lif sal be icrauid of þe, Þeȝ þou ȝif him no wonde.
I þe rede: rise and wake [awake] Of þe hori sinne lake. If þou be þer in itake, Iwisse þou schalt to helle, To woni wiþ þe fendis [? fentis, Ms. undeutlich] blake In þat sorful wille. Þi wei þou make, [Ms. mak] þou dri þe stake, [stak] To prest þi sinnes telle; So wo and wrake sal fram þe rake Wiþ fendis [d deutlich] grimme and felle.
If in sinne þi liue is ladde, To do penance ne be noȝt sadde; Who so doþ, he nis noȝt madde, As holi churche vs techithe; [Ms. techith'] Þer of be þou noȝt adradde, Crist sal be þi lech, Þus Crist us radde, þat rode spradde, Wiþ a blisful spech. Whan he so bad, þou miȝt be gladde, Ne louiþ he no wreche.
