þorowȝ kunnynge of him þat clepeþ ȝow þorow his owne ioye & his vertu; [verse 4] by þe whuche vertu moste & precyous byhestes he haþ ȝeuen ȝow; þat þorow him ȝe be maked felowis of þe kynde of God, fleynge þe corrupcyoun of desyres þat beþ in the worlde. [verse 5] And þerfore putteþ al ȝoure bysynesse to vse vertu in ȝoure feiþ, in vertu to haue connynge, [verse 6] soþly in kunnynge abstynence, pacyence, in pacyence onlyche of pyte, [verse 7] in pyte loue of breþur|hede, in br[e]ur[hede] [MS. broþur.] loue of charite: [verse 8] Soþly if þis be ȝoure lederis & wiþ [folio 68] ȝow, þei wele [not] leue ȝow voyde, [ne] wiþ-outen fruyt in þe knowynge of oure Lord Iesu Crist. [verse 9] Soþly whoso is not redy to þis, soþly he is blynde, & suffereþ temptacyon to muche to haue power in him, forgetynge to muche þe clensynge of his olde synnys. [verse 10] Wherfore, my dere breþeren, beþ þe more bysy, þat þorow ȝoure goode werkes þat ȝe do & fulfylle ȝowre certeyn clepynge & chesynge (þat is, þat ȝe fulfylle þe dedus þat ȝe beþ chosen and clepyd to) [Underlined.] . Soþly if ȝe þus do, & ȝoure clepynge fulfille, þan ȝe schul not synne. [verse 11] And þanne schal abundynglyche (þat is, plenteouslyche) [Underlined.] be ȝeuen to ȝow, wher-þorow ȝe schul haue entre in-to þe euere-lastynge kyngdom of oure Lord & Iesu Crist oure saueoure. [verse 12] Wher|fore I schal bygynne to meue ȝow & telle ȝow eueremore of þes þinges, þat ȝe soþly be in þem stabled & confermed in soþfastnes. [verse 13] Soþly me þinkeþ it riȝtwis, as longe as I schal dwelle in this wonyngestede, (þat is, þe whyle I lyue) [Underlined.] to rere ȝow (þat is, to stere ȝow) in warnynges & techynges. [verse 14] Serteyn I am þat smert & hasty is þe doynge dowen of my tabernacle (þat [folio 68b] is, I am certeyn þat hastely & sone schal come þe tyme of my departynge of body and of soule) [Underlined.] , after þat at oure Lorde Iesu Criste haþ ordeynyd to me. [verse 15] & I schal ȝeue ȝow enchesoun þat I may haue ȝow aftur my deed, þat ȝe haue in mynde þes þynges þat I telle ȝow in my lyfe. [verse 16] Ȝe schul not folow þis techynge, as it were yuel tauȝt fabules we haue maad knowen vn-to ȝow: þe vertu & þe for-knowynge of God. But I wele þat ȝe be byholderes of his grete dedus: [verse 17] takynge of God the Fadur honoure & ioye, þorow þe voice þat come glydynge fro heuene, fro þe fadur to þe sone, seyinge on þis wyse fro his fulgrete ioye, Here is, or, þis is my deere sone, in whom muche lykyng Iche haue hadde; heere ȝe him. [verse 18] & þis voice we herde fro heuene brouȝte, whanne we were wiþ him in þe holy hylle. [verse 19] & we haue þe more ful trewþe & word of prophecye, & in þat ȝe do wele þat ȝe take heede þer-to, as to a lanterne lyȝtenynge in a derke place, forto þe day schyne, & lucifer, the grete sterne, be resen in ȝoure hertis, þat schyneþ so briȝt. [verse 21] Soþely al tyme prophecye is not ȝeuen aftur [folio 69] mannes wille: but alle þe holy seyntes þorow þe Holy Gost spaken þat were enspyred of him.
[verse 1] Ther were soþly also fals prophetus a-mong þe folke, ryȝt as a-mong ȝow schul be mayster lyeris, þat bryngen vppe newe sectis (þat is, newe religyon & newe gyses) [Underlined.] of dampnacyoun, & þat Lord þat bouȝte hem schul þei denye, chesynge hem a ledere of loste & dampnacyoun. [verse 2] & many schul folowe aftur here leccheryes (þat is to seye, þer schal come in holy churche maysterus þat schul mayntene lesynges, boþe of lerid & lewyd, peruertynge
