mennes foleweþ. Also goode werkes beþ opene, & þilke þat beþ oþerwyse ne mowe noȝt ben y-hud.

[verse 1] And alle þilke þat beþ in seruytute, worschypen þei hure lordes [in] [& S.P.] alle worschupe, leste þe name of God & his doctrine be blasphemed. [verse 2] And þilke þat habbeþ feiþful lordes, ne despyseþ þei noȝt hem, for þei beþ hure breþeren; bote serfen hem þe raþer, þat þei beþ feiþful & y-lofed & partyneres of [P folio 92] þe benefys of God. Þese þynges teche þou & stere hem þerto. [verse 3] & ȝef eny man teche oþer-wyse, & assenteþ not [in a later hand in the margin, S. om. P.] to þe hol wordes of þe doctryne of oure Lord [verse 4] Iesu Crist, & to þe techynge of pyte; he is proud [he is proud repeated in the margin, 1st corr. S.] , knowynge no þing, bote longynge aboute questyones & stryfynges of wordes, of whom ryseþ up enuyes & stryfynges, blasphemyes, [verse 5] efel suspycyones, fyȝtynges of men þat beþ corrupt in þouȝt & beþ depryfed of trewþe, þat weneþ þat getynge by pyte. [verse 6] , [verse 7] Bote a ful gret getynge is pyte wiþ suffysaunce: for we broȝten no þing in-to þis world, & it is certayn wiþ-oute doute þat we mowen beren no þing a-wey. [verse 8] Bote hafe we lyflode & what we mowen ben y-wrye wiþ, holde we ous a-payd þerwiþ. [verse 9] For þilke þat wolleþ ben y-mad ryche [S folio 80] men, þei falleþ in-to temptacyoun & in-to þe defeles grun & in-to many vnprofytabel desyres & noyful [nyful P.] , þat drencheþ men in-to deþ & in-to perdycyoun. [verse 10] For þe rote of al efel is couetyse: whom summen hafeþ desyred, & han y-erred from þe feiþ & han y-broȝt hemselfen in-to muche sorewe. [verse 11] Bote þou þat art Goddes man, fleo þese þinges; & folewe þow ryȝtfulnesse & pyte, feiþ, charyte, pacyence, & mansuetude. [verse 12] Fyȝt a good fyȝtynge of þe feiþ, & take [P folio 92b] þe eferlastynge lyf, in þe whuche þow art y-cleped, & hast y-knowleched a good knowlechynge to-fore many wytnesses. [verse 13] & ich hote þe to-fore God in Iesu Crist, þat makeþ alle þinges lyfen in Iesu Crist, þat ȝef a testymony vnder Pylat of Pounce, a good knowlechynge, [verse 14] þat þow kepe þe comaundement, wiþ-outen wem, vnre|prefabel, [verse 15] in-to þe comynge of oure Lord Iesu Crist: whom he schal schewen in his tyme, þat is y-blessed, and al-one [lone P.] myȝty,
