(si l'ot, Wace, l. 7183.)] þat nyght; [Lambeth folio 33b:1] Of Kent he gaf Hengist þe ryght. Þe Erl þat tyme þat Kent [Erell . . . . . Kent all.] held, Sire Gorogon, þat bar [had.] þe scheld, Line 7624 Of þat gyft no þyng he ne wyste Til he was dryuen out [To he was cast oute.] wyþ Hengist. Þe Payens conseil þe kyng vnderstod, & despised þe Cristene blod; Line 7628 & alle þe Cristene hym forsok, ffor he hym to þe Payens tok; His owen kynde hated hym mest, [kin hotid him.] His children loued hym alder lest. [childir loued him alle lost.] Line 7632 Byfore tyme he hadde a wyf, But deþ hadde departed [Bot dede had depart.] þer lyf; Wyþ þat wyf he had þre sones Þat helde ageyn hym for þe Bretons; Line 7636 Þe eldest highte sire Vortymer, Þat oþer, Patens, and Catyger. [þe toþer Passence & Katiger.]

Hengist wente wyþ þe kyng aboute, To be syker for drede & doute, Line 7640 & seyde, "y se hit on many gate " Þat þou for me of summe hast [has.] hate;
