Þen let he mykel [þe king lete mikill.] of þe Saxons, [sessons.] & dide hem amende þer liuersons. [did amend þer liueresons.] Þe kyng gaf Hengist faire [of his.] maners In Kent, & fele oþere stedes seers: [In Lindesai in stedis sers. (In Londesìa regione, Galf. Hengist sey til hym þe word wold schape, [saw þe werld wild skape.] His nedes to spede þen had he rape; [for to spede & rape.] 7436 He sey oþ er do [MS. to. P. has do. (Wace's comment 'Comme cascuns faire 'devroit,' (i. 323, l. 7006), on Hen|gist's 'D'avancir soi s'entremetoit,' is not translated.)] þer queyntyse, Wher-of auauntage myghte aryse, [qwere-of auauntige mote rise.] & also þoughte he þan seye som þynge ffor to plese wyþ-al þe kyng. 7440 On a day by þe kyng he sat, To-gydere spekynge of many what; [spekin of mani qwat.] [Petyt folio 44b:2] He sey þe kyng was mury [wele.] at ese, Wyþ his conseil he gan hym plese: 7444 " Sire," he seis, "ȝe han do [Sir king þou has done.] me honour, " & mykel y haue y-take [had.] of ȝour.
