[104.] A charter of petur Meles of þe Mese Euen agaynste þe Mille.

About 1280. Grant to Oseney, by Peter of Mules, of a messu|age, subject to 8d. yearly to maintain a lamp in the church.

KNOWE þey þat be present and to be that I, petur of Meles, ȝafe grauntid and quyte-claymed, and with this my present charter confermed, to god and to þe church of Seynte marye of Oseney and to þe chanons in hit seruyng god, that Mese, with þe Curtilage or garden and all his oþer pertinences, þat I had in þe town of Cudelynton, þe which truly mese is i-sett euen agaynste þe mylle of þ^e same Abbot and Couent in þ^e same towne of þe sowth partie by þe water: to be holde and i-had, to þe church and chanons, of me and of my heyres, In-to ffre pure and perpetuell almes, ȝeldyng þerof to þ^e church of Cude|lynton viij. d. to þe susteynyng of oon lampe, afore þe crucifixe In þe same church, for þe sowles of Sir Henry Doylly and of all sowles, as þ^e same tenement of oolde was i-wonyd to paye, for all thyng þe which, of þe londe and for þ^e londe, may, or shall mowe, to be [folio 25b] axid for Euer. And I petur and my heyres þ^e forsaide Mese, with all his pertinences, to þe church and chanons agaynste all cristen men and Juys shall warantiȝe aquite and defende for Euer. And that this my ȝifte be rate and stable for Euer, to þ^is writyng my seele haue I put to. These witnesses, et cetera.
