& to william [William of Forde, abbot 1184-1205.] , abbot of Thame, & to mastur Robert Chadeles|wrde, to knowe þe cause of þe strife bi-twene Richard [Richard, abbot of Cirencester 1187|1213. Cirencester abbey owned the rectory of Eisey.] , abbat of Cicetur & þe chanons of þe same place, & þe abbas & min|chons of Godestowe, for to cese hit with a dewe forme & ende. & so, aftur mony tretinges of þe same mater, þei compownid frendli, bi counsel of wise men, & restid bi þis ende: þat is to sei, þat þe fore-seide abbas & mynchons, þe quarel & playnt þat þei had meuid to þe fore-seide abbot & chanons vppon the [folio XXX(41)] chapell of Eton (seiinge þat hit was & owid to be fre & assoiled fro þe subieccion of euiri modur church) remittid hit all to þe chanons, grauntinge also þat þe fore-seide chapel of Eton sholde a-bide subiecte for euer to þe church of Eisi as a chapell. þei [i. e. the Commissioners.] grauntid also to þe chapell of Eton & bi hit to þe churche of Eisi (as to þe modur churche) halfe j. hide of londe in Eton biside þat halfe hide of londe þat hit holdiþe & haþe I-holde fro olde time, to be holde in-to pure & perpetuel almis, with meede & pastur perteininge to þe same, freli & quietli fro all exaccion & seculer seruice þat shold be do to þe same minchons þer-of: also j. yerd-londe þat was assinid of olde time to the same chapell with þe pertinences þat hit had of olde time, & a-noþer yerde of londe of þe lordeshipe of þe minchons in-to an eschange of a yerde of londe þat was assinid of olde time to þe fore-seide chapel, of þe whiche yerde of londe x. acris wer assinid in þe est felde in a telthe þat is callid beringereslonde, & in þe same parte of þe felde was assinid of þe demain mede of þe minchons mede perteininge to þe fore-seide yerde of londe, þat is to sei, ij. acris & j. halfe; oþer x. acris wer assinid in þe sowth felde in telthe þat is callid vedermorforlonge, in þe whiche telþe þe fore-seide minchons reteinid too vtter|muste acris next to þe pasture: thei graunte also to þe fore-seide chapell, with þe fore-seide londe, a crofte with a mese next to þe crofte longinge a-fore to þe fore-seide chapell. Thei graunte also þat, of all her lordeship in Eton, þe tithis of þe corne sholde be gyfe hole at þe doris of þe bernis to þe person of Eisi & to his successours for euir, with-oute deceite or greuance.
