Þat folk þo þai herden þis; þe kyng þai comen to: "Ȝiue vs" þai seiden "Danyel; oure will with hym to do, Oiþer we schullen þe sle; er we hennes gon." Þe kyng was of hem sore adrad; & graunted hem onon. Line 240 Onon þai token Danyel þo; & casten hym in-to a pytte, Þere seuen hungri lyouns weren; þereinne all ydytte, ffor þai hym strangli scholden; ac þai deden hym non harme; Bot whan þat he was sett adoun; þai leneden in-to his barme. A Man þere was þat hiȝth Abacuc; in-to þe felde he went, [¶ Abacuk.] Repmen forto bere mete; sone he hym þider sent. Þe Aungel hym bad abide; & to Danyel it bere. Line 247 Sone he seide 'he nolde'; & ȝaf hym liȝth ansuere. Þe aungel took hym by þe top; & bare hym forþ þer myde,— Hym had ben bettere to haue ygo; þan so fer to haue iryde,— & so hym he bare to Danyel; & þo he com hym to, Line 251 He ȝaf hym þe mete þat he bare; & lete Abacuc go. Þo Danyel had seueniȝth; ibe in þe dep pytt, Þe kyng loked to his lyouns; & lete hem vndytt. Line 254 ¶ Alyue he fond Danyel; gret wonder he hadde. Wiþ gret ioye he took hym vp; & to his fon hym lad. Þe men þat brouȝtten hym þere; he lete nyme fast, And euerych after oþere; amonge þe lyouns cast. Line 258 Sone hadden þe Lyouns; forswelewed hem vchone; And so oure lorde euer among; takeþ wreche of his fon. Þapostles, forto þai weren yslawe; precheden cristendom; And many man after hem; good prechour bycom. Line 262 And now þise freres don also; prechen aboute ylome, ffor of prechyng it worþe nede; er þe day of dome. ÞE first signe þer aȝeins; as oure lord hym-self sede, Hungere schal on erþe be; treccherie & falshede, Line 266 Batailes & litel loue; sekenesse & haterede; & þe erþe schal quaken; þat vche man schal drede; Þe mone schal turne to blood; þe sunne to derkhede; Antecrist schal on erþe gon; & prechen his li er hede. He schal go bot in þe holy londe; þere oure lord ȝede, & his deciples in-to al þe werlde; his yuel wordes wil bede.
