[113] ¶ þe rote of þis tree is contricione þat hideþ him in þe hert of him þat is verraie repentant Riht as þe rote of a tre hideþ him in þe erþe; [114] ¶ Of þe rote of contricione springeþ a stalk þat bereþ braunches & leues of confessis & fruyte of satisfaccione. [115] For whiche crist seiþe in þe gospel. Doþe digne fruyte of penite. For be þis fruyte men maye knowe þis tre; & nouht be rote þat is hide in þe herte of man; be þe braunche ne be þe leues of confessione; [116] And þere for oure lorde ihesu crist seiþ þus; Be þe fruyte of hem schal ȝe knowe hem [117] ¶ Of þis rote springeþ a seede of grace; þe whiche sede is þe mode of sekernesse; And þis seed is egre & hote; [118] þe grace of þis seed springeþ of god þoruhe þe re|membrance of þe daie of dome & one þe peines of helle.
