Now þou sist, þe deuelen seden, . whoder þou schalt gon, Bote þou anoþer speke . & to vs torne anon. Line 370 Heo casten him in a put; . on ihū anon he criede, And com vp al sound, . him ne luste no leng abide. þe fendes in grete wraþþe . harleden vorþere more [fehlt him nach harleden.] And brouȝten him vpon agret hul, . ful of sorwe and sore. He bi huld al aboute, . þo he com vp an heiȝ; Line 375 Him wondrede of so fele gostes . þat he þer iseiȝe, þat alle þat he seiȝ raþere . þer aȝen noȝt nere; Vpe here ton heo seten i cluȝt, . & quakeden for fere. In þe souþ half of þe hul . a dep water was & lowe, þat voule stank & caldere was . þan ani ys oþer snowe; Line 380 A norþere wind þer blew, . him þouȝte is vlesch rende. [fehlt þat vor him.] Euere sete þe gostes . & aȝen þe wind hem wende, And quakeden vaste . vor drede & pine stronge, And abide as who seiȝ (!) time, . þe deþ vorte afonge.
