ȝef þou art an old mon, Tac þou þe no ȝong wommon Forte be þi spouse; For loue þou hire ner so muche, Line 130 Hue wol telle to þe lute ["Sie wird wenig mit dir sprechen", d. h. sie wird stets mürrisch sein. Statt des Reimes finden wir hier die blosse Assonanz.] In þin oune house.
Monimon syngeþ When he hom bringeþ Is ȝonge wyf: Line 135 Wyste whet he broȝte, [wyste ist kontrahirt aus "wyste he". — whet, ms. wet.] Wepen he mohte Er syþ his lyf. [Er syþ his lyf, ms. Er his lyf syþ. Da "lyf" offenbar Reimwort zu "wyf" ist, so habe ich "lyf" ans Ende gestellt. Der Sinn dieser Zeile würde sein: "euer afterwards his life", immer später sein ganzes Leben hindurch.] Quoþ Hendyng.
