ant bitime doht him to deþe, [doht, ms. doh.] for hunger her he liueþ vnneþe." þenne spek þe priour: [135 u. 139. spek wie v. 105.] " 'god him ȝeue muchel honour; 140 tymliche he shal tolyured be þourh myn help & my pouste.' " þe priour com to þe couent, ant seide: "sires, verreyment, deliure we þis prisoun among vs alle, 145 We nuten whet cas vs may byfalle." [whet, ms. wet.] þenne saide þe abbot: " 'þat is soht, god hit wot!' " He letten after him sende, for he wes boþe god & hende. 150 þo he wes after ysent, þo he tolde hem: al yshent [hem, ms. him. — al yshent ist mit "ha ben an hon" zu verbinden.] He wende forte ha ben an hon, oþer o worse deþ ydon. He com byfore þe abbot: 155 " 'Maryn, þuncheþ þe god such penaunce forte dreye [forte dreye: dass du erduldet hast.] for eny cunnes foleye?' " "iesu, ȝef þi wille be, y preye þat þou forȝeue me 160 þat ich habbe misdon aȝeynes þe; Merci y crie, par charite!" ant þah hire herte wes ful lyht, [hire, ms. his.] þat heuede be so ydyht, ["so war das doch so eingerichtet worden", so sah das doch so aus.] þourh penaunce þer forte ligge; [forte ligge: als ob sie aus Reue dort läge.] 165 þe ioie of hyre ne may mon sugge. Heo liuede þer inne wiþ muche wo tuo ȝer forsoþe, ant namo.
