Luþer is to leosen þer ase lutel ys, & haueþ monie hynen þat hopieþ þer to. Da die Handschrift sonst nur die Formen "a" und "an" für den unbestimmten Artikel kennt (allerdings "eny, eni" neben "any, ani"), so ist das "a" auch hier eingeführt worden.] þat naþ nout an hod his hed forte hude. þus wil walkeþ in lond, & lawe is forlore, & al haþ piked of þe pore þe prikyares prude. [haþ, ms. is. Die Lesart der Handschrift ist unverständlich.]
þus me pileþ þe pore & pykeþ ful clene; Line 25 þe ryche men raymeþ wiþ outen eny ryht, [men, ms. me. Die verkürzte Form "me" hat an allen anderen Stellen die pronominale Bedeutung des deutschen "man", weshalb wir hier die volle Form wieder hergestellt haben.] Ar londes & ar leodes liggeþ fol lene, þorh biddyng of baylyfs such harm hem haþ hiht. [biddyng, ms. bddyng.] Men of religioun, me halt hem ful hene, [Men, ms. Mem, wofür W. setzt "Meni".] baroun & bonde, þe clerc & þe knyht. Line 30 þus wil walkeþ in lond, & wondred ys wene, falsshipe fatteþ & marreþ wyþ myht.
Stont stille y þe stude & halt hem ful sturne, [hem, ms. him.] þat makeþ beggares go wiþ bordon & bagges. þus we beþ honted from hale to hurne; Line 35 þat er werede robes, nou wereþ ragges.
ȝet comeþ budeles wiþ ful muche bost: "greyþe me seluer to þe grene wax;
