Bot hiȝly hevened þi hele fro hem þat arn combred: Line 920 Nou wale þe a wonnyng þat þe warisch myȝt, [M. walle, but e of MS. written over second l.] And he schal save hit for þy sake þat hatz uus sende hider, For þou art oddely þyn one out of þis fylþe, And als Abraham, þy[n em], hit at himself asked.' [MS. broþer is written in a second hand, the b and r being unlike the scribe's, over the n of þyn and what was apparently em, perhaps eme; the first stroke of n is plainly visible just before the b, and some other bits of the original handwriting may be distinguished.] Line 924 'Lorde, loved he worþe,' quod Loth, 'upon erþe! Þe[r] is a cite herbisyde þat Segor hit hatte, [MS., M. þen.] Here utter on a rounde hil hit hovez hit one, I wolde, if his wylle wore, to þat won scape.' [wore apparently retraced.] Line 928 'Þenn fare forth,' quod þat fre, 'and fyne þou never, Wyth þose ilk þat þow wylt þat þrenge þe after, And ay goande on yor gate, wythouten agayntote, For alle þis londe schal be lorne, longe er þe sonne rise.' Line 932
Þe wyȝe wakened his wyf and his wlonk deȝteres, And oþer two myri men þo maydenez schulde wedde; And þay token hit as t[a]yt, and tented hit lyttel, [MS., M. tyt.] Þaȝ fast laþed hem Loth, þay leȝen ful stylle. Line 936 Þe aungelez hasted þise oþer, and aȝly hem þratten, [folio 74a] And enforsed alle fawre forth at þe ȝatez: Þo wern Loth and his lef, his luflyche deȝter, Þer soȝt no mo to savement of cities aþel fyve. Line 940 Þise aungelez hade hem by hande out at þe ȝatez, Prechande hem þe perile, and beden hem passe fast: 'Lest ȝe be taken in þe teche of tyrauntez here, Loke ȝe bowe now bi bot, bowez fast hence!' Line 944 And þay kayre ne con and kenely flowen; [MS., E. kayre ne con; M. kayre-ne (Glossary kayrene); Fi. quotes and accepts Trautmann's emendation encon (see note).]
