ÞEre was a man̛, that ofte sithe was tempted̛ with dyspayre, and̛ prayde seynte Cateryn̛ of̘ helpe, of̘ [leaf 77, back] whome he had̛ grete deuocion̛. seynt Cateryn̛ Comforted̛ hym, and̛ bade hym say thus,
"Foule fende, away thou flee!Criste with his blode he hathe bought me;of his blode the Crowne was redde;flee, thou foule fende, that is thy dede."&c.
