hec mando vobis vt diligatis (Joh. 15, 17-25).

Jhesu seide þis wordus meke To his disciples whon he speke: "þis," he seide, "I to ȝou sende þat ȝe loue to-geder hende. And þeih þe world ȝou hate þe more, Me hit hedde in hate to-fore. ȝif ȝe of þe world were, he wolde loue his þing dere; But ȝe beo not þerof so, ffor I haue chose ȝou þer-fro: [ 10] þe world, ful of debate, þerfore haþ ȝou in hate. Biþenkeþ ȝou of wordus myne þat I haue seid mony a tyme: A seruaunt, bi good record, [ 15] Nis not more þen his lord. ffor ȝif þei han pursuwed me, Pursuwed of hem schul ȝe be; ȝif þei my word kept haue, ȝoures schul þei kepe and saue. [ 20] þei schul ȝow do al þis þing ffor my nome knowlechyng: Mi ffadur wol þei knowe nouht Ne me þat hem hider brouht. Ȝif I hedde not to hem come [ 25] And spoken wiþ hem ofte in wone, þen schulde þei not han had Synne þat is in hem stad: Now ha þei excusaciun non Of heor synnes euerichon. [ 30] hose hateþ fulliche me, Mi ffader also in hate haþ he. But whon he hedde seid here [ 155] 'ȝif ȝe of þis world were, þe world wolde, soþ hit is, ffulliche loue þat were his. ȝe nare not of þe world so: I ha chose ȝou fulliche þerfro. [ 160] he is wikked and vnwrest, þerfore to hate ȝou hit is prest.' þeose disciplus weore not chose Out of þis world, þat goþ to lose, Bi her owne disseruynge, [ 165] Of whos tofore-lyuynge ffewe goode vertuwes cam, Til hit was ȝiuen bi grace to ham;

Ne þey weore not, as we fynde, Chosun bi wey of heiȝ kynde, [ 170] ffor al vr kuynde, til þer cum bote, Defouled was In Adames rote— þis synful dede, þat was so ille, was al I-don bi freo wille. þei weore chose, soþ to sey, [ 175] By grace of god þat is verrey. Crist þerfore to hem preid: 'þenk on þe word þat I haue seid. þe seruaunt bi good record Nis no better þen his lord. [ 190] A grettore saumple ne more bet hou miht he him-self set? Petur seiþ, þe apostel dere, þat crist suffrede for vs here, To ȝiue vs ensaumple in plas [ 195] Mekeliche forte suwe his tras. Crist seide: 'al þis ilke schame þei schal ȝou do for myn name, Ow to hate in alle wyse, Porsuwe ȝor wordus to dispise.' [ 200] whi for his nome hit to beo don, þis is good to wite son. 'In ȝow schul þei me hate newe, In ȝow schul þei me pursuwe, And bi enchesun þat ȝoure word [ 205] Is myn and of myn hord, þerfore, I ou telle eke, In no wyse wol þei hem kepe, ffor my nome þei schal þis do, And not for ȝoures, take hit so. [ 210] Riht as þei more corsud are þat don ȝow þis dissese and fare ffor myn name in ȝow dresset, Riht so are ȝe þe more blesset þat suffren mekely al þis schome [ 215] ffor me and also in my nome.'
