Jhesu, ful of alle vertuwes, Seide to þe pepul of þe Jewes: "Nou," he seide, "þer is a dome Of þis world, I warne ȝow sone: þe prince of þis world vnwrast [ 5] Nou he schal beo out cast. And ȝif I schal beo rered heiȝ ffrom þe eorþe, sikerly, Alle þing I schal drawe To my-self in luytel þrawe"— [ 10] þis he seide bi tokenyng what deþ he was to dyȝing. þe folk seide and onswerd: "Of þe lawe we han herd þat crist, soþli for to telle, [ 15] wiþ-outen ende euer schal dwelle: hou seistou þat þe sone of Man Moste ben vp reyset þan? who is þe sone of mon þus?" þen seide to hem Jhesus: [ 20]

"Ȝit," he seide, "bi in-siht In ȝou þer is but luyte liht. Goþ while ȝe ha liht, I rede, þat derknes take ȝou not in drede: ffor hose goþ in derknes, [ 25] he not whodur he goþ to ges. Leueþ in liht, ȝou to saue, while ȝe liht wiþ ȝou haue, þat ȝe in þis maner mai beo þe sones of liht feir and freo." [ 30] þis is þe strengþe of þis gospel, As mon in Englisch tonge may tel.
ÞE Apostel seiþ in a place: 'Mony beo þe domes of godus grace; þe domus of god may not beo þouht By Monnes wit ne forþ ibrouht.' To suffre deþ for vre sake On þe Cros wiþ wo and wrake. [ 130] 'Goþ', he seide, 'whil ȝe ha liht, þat ȝow ne take þe derk niht': þat was to sei in þat stounde, wordus goode of grace I-founde: 'Leeueþ as wel þe diȝinge [ 135] As ȝe do þe euer-lastynge, And also þe schedyng of my blood As myn vprisyng so good And my steiȝinge to heuene cler, As heiȝe kyng of gret pouwer; [ 140] But ȝif ȝe wolde leeue þis wiþ þe euerlastinge, I-wis, ȝe ben ouertake wiþ mis-bileeue, þat sore aftur wol ȝow greue.' þis he cald þe derknes, [ 145] ffor to helle hit wolde hem dres. 'hose in derknesse goþ so, he not whodurward to go.' Jhesu seide in þis gospel More, as he coude ful wel: [ 150] 'Leueþ in liht in ȝou, I say, whil ȝe liht haue may: þen may ȝe haue good siht And also beo þe sones of liht:' þis is to sei in þis speche: [ 155] vre goode lord dude hem teche, whil þei hedde trewe techyng, To leuen in trouþe for eny-þing: 'Bi þi(s) wei may ȝe beo sone þe sones of liht in his trone.' [ 160] he þat for vs wolde dye Bring vs vp to heuene hiȝe.
