Confitebor tibi pater celi & terre (Math. 11, 25-30).
Vppon a tyme goode Jhesus
Onswering he seide þus:
"ffadur of heuene ad eorþe fre,
her I knowleche me to þe,
þe wȝuche hast hud þeose þinges [ 5]
ffrom wyse and sleiȝe at þi likynges,
And hast also hem schewed wyde
To smale children hem bisyde.
ffor so, ffadur, payinge hit was
Tofore þe, folfuld of graas. [ 10]
Alle þinges," he seide, "here
Beon ȝiuen me of my fadur deore.
And no mon þe sone knoweþ,
Bote þe ffader, þat him oweþ:
And who knoweþ þe ffader in wone [ 15]
Bote his owne deore sone,
And to whom þe sone wolde
Beon I-schewed, as hit is tolde?"
þenne seide Jhesu anon:
"Comeþ to me euerichon, [ 20]
Ȝe þat trauayl and charge han take,
And al fresch I schal ȝou make.
Bereþ my ȝok for ȝor prow,
And lerneþ also at me now,
ffor I am here verrey meke [ 25]
And also tender of herte eke:
Ȝe schul þenne fynde prest
To oure soules muche rest.
fforsoþe, my ȝok is swete bi riht,
And my burþen also is liht." [ 30]
Gret meknes her we se
Of God þat noumbred may not be,
hit is schewed to vs ful wel
In þe lessun of þis gospel.
vre lord god, of mihtes most, [ 35]
Seide here wiþ a glad gost
'ffadur, to þe I knoweleche,
Of heuene and eorþe, in þis speche':
Bi þeose wordus seo we may,
Openliche knowe hit ay, [ 40]
þat knowelechyng, soþ to sey,
Nis not mad al-wey
ffor Excusaciun of synne,
Bote oþurwhile, to biginne,
worschipe to declare in cas, [ 45]
As hit stod in þis plas.
þis knowleching of god so dere
Gladful hit is vs to here:
A dispensaciun hit þenne is
Of vre hele, forsoþe i-wis. [ 50]
Crist dude his ffadur calle
Lord of heuene, eorþe and alle,
