Vppon a tyme goode Jhesus Onswering he seide þus: "ffadur of heuene ad eorþe fre, her I knowleche me to þe, þe wȝuche hast hud þeose þinges [ 5] ffrom wyse and sleiȝe at þi likynges, And hast also hem schewed wyde To smale children hem bisyde. ffor so, ffadur, payinge hit was Tofore þe, folfuld of graas. [ 10] Alle þinges," he seide, "here Beon ȝiuen me of my fadur deore. And no mon þe sone knoweþ, Bote þe ffader, þat him oweþ: And who knoweþ þe ffader in wone [ 15] Bote his owne deore sone, And to whom þe sone wolde Beon I-schewed, as hit is tolde?" þenne seide Jhesu anon: "Comeþ to me euerichon, [ 20] Ȝe þat trauayl and charge han take, And al fresch I schal ȝou make. Bereþ my ȝok for ȝor prow, And lerneþ also at me now, ffor I am here verrey meke [ 25] And also tender of herte eke: Ȝe schul þenne fynde prest To oure soules muche rest. fforsoþe, my ȝok is swete bi riht, And my burþen also is liht." [ 60] þer crist seide 'ffadur kud, þou hast þeose þinges hud, þat passen from my mouþ in hiȝ, ffrom hem þat aren wys and sleih, And hast schewed hem forte knowe [ 65] To luytel children and to lowe': þis was to mene þe wisdom þat þenne opened was to mon, To alle þe apostles trewe þat þenne wente him to suwe— [ 70] ffor luytel children weore þei told ffor þei weore meke monyfold; And þat hit was I-hud þo þe wyse Philosofres fro. he cald hem sleih and eke wyse, [ 75] ffor þei weore ful of fals queyntise, To alle oþere þei made scorn, wiþ bostyng set hem-self toforn: ffrom hem he hudde hit, soþ to say, ffor þei weore at þis aray. Crist seide þenne atte large 'Ȝe þat han trauayled and boren charge, I schal ow fede wiþ milde steuene wiþ þe foode þat is in heuene': [ 100] þeose beo þo þat trauayle þus In eorþe here for Jhesus And strongliche suffre wiþ heore miht Persecussion for þe riht And nulleþ not wiþ þe fend beo nomen [ 105] Ne in herte trauayle ouercomen. To Monnes soule hit is ful sééte: þerfore he seide, hit was ful swééte; [ 110] þis burþen is ful liht also, ffrom eorþe to heuene hit makeþ us go. Bi him beo we þider lad þat on þe Roode for vs was sprad.
