                                  Þat es to say, of ilka neghebur,

                                  Þat men fals to help and to socur.
                                
                                  For God til ilk man commandes right
                                
                                  To helpe his neghebur after his myght.
                                
                                  And þas, þat may helpe and wille noght,

                                  Sal þan til ful strayt acount be broght.
                                
                                  Alswa fadirs and modirs, at þat day,
                                
                                  Sal yhelde acount, þat es to say,
                                
                                  Of sons and doghtirs þat þai forthe broght,
                                  Line 5868 
                                
                                  Þe whilk þai here chastied noght.
                                
                                  And loverds alswa of þair meigné
                                
                                  Þe whilk þai lete uniustifyed be
                                
                                  And maysters of þair disciples alswa,
                                  Line 5872 
                                
                                  Þat þai lete be unthewed, and untaght ga,
                                
                                  And chastid þam noght, ne þam wald lere,
                                
                                  Forþi says Salamon on þis manere:
                                
                                    Virga discipline fugabit stulticiam
                                  
                                  Line 5876 
                                
                                    in corde pueri colligatam.
                                  
                                  "Þe wande", he says, "of disciplyne smert,
                                
                                  Sal chace foly out of þe childes hert."
                                
                                  Þarfor maysters som tyme uses þe wand
                                  Line 5880 
                                
                                  Þat has childer to lere undir þair hand.
                                
                                  Prelats of ordir and of dignyté
                                
                                  Sal acount yhelde in sere degré
                                
                                  Of þair suggets undir þair powere,
                                  Line 5884 
                                
                                  How þai þam reweld in þis lyf here,
                                
                                  And answer of þam þat lyfed noght wele,
                                
                                  For þus says þe prophet Ezechiele:
                                
                                    Ecce! ego requiram gregem
                                  
                                  Line 5888 
                                
                                    meam de manu pastoris.
                                  
                                  God says þus thurgh þe prophete:
                                
                                  "Lo! I sal aske my flok of shepe
                                
                                  Of þe hird þat had þam undir his hand;"
                                  Line 5892 
                                
                                  Of þis word aght prelates be dredand.
                                
                                  Men sal alswa yhelde rekkenynges sere
                                
                                  Of al gudes pat God has gefen þam here,
