Vanitatem sancti per humilitatem fugiunt.
We rede also in 'Gestis Patrum' how on̛ a tyme a iustice of a lande come for to se ane abbott, and when̛ he hard̛ teƚƚ at he come [MS. adds, and, here.] , he garte clothe hym̛ in sak-clothe and tuke in his hand bread̛ & chese, & sett hym̛ in his ceƚƚ-dure. And when̛ þe iustis saw hym̛ he dispysid̛ hym̛ and sayd̛; "Is not þis þe man̛ at we hafe hard̛ so mekuƚƚ teƚƚ off?" & with þat he went his way & wolde byde no longer.
