We rede in 'Vitis Patrum' how, on̛ a tyme, þer was a monke þat axkid his abbott & prayed hym̛ teƚƚ hym̛ a wurde at he mot thynke on̛. And he bad hym̛ go & vmthynk hym̛ alway, "as a thefe duse in preson̛ þat evur spirris whar þe iustis is and when̛ þe session̛ saƚƚ be, and evur is in sorow & mornyng for ferd̛ of hangyng; so sulde þou & evur-ilk man̛ thynk how þou mon̛ com̛ befor̛ þe grete iugement of Almyghtie God, and þer giff rekynyng of aƚƚ þi dedis. And if þou thynk aƚƚ-way on̛ þis maner of wyse, no dowte of þou mon̛ be savid̛."
