We rede in 'Vitis Patrum' how som̛ [tyme] þer was in a
monasterie a monk̘ þat had a son̛. And he was so long
nurisshid̛ þer & come not oute, att he knew not
whatkyn̛ thyng wommen̛ was. So when̛ he was
wexen̛ vnto mans state, þe devuƚƚ apperid̛ vnto
hym̛ in lyknes and clothyng of a womman̛, and he tolde his

fadur whatt he had sene and axkid̛ hym̛ whatt it was, &
he wolde not teƚƚ hym̛. So on̛ a tyme he went with his
fadur into Egypte, and þer he saw wommen̛. And
þan̛ he tolde his fadur at þai war swilk at he saw in
his abbay in wyldernes, and his fadur had merveƚƚ here-of &
trowid̛ at it was a disseyte of þe devuƚƚ and said
