We rede in 'Vitis Patrum' how when̛ þe abbott Pambo was vnletterd̛, he went vnto a man̛ þat was letterd̛ and prayed̛ hym̛ to lern̛ hym̛ a salme. And when̛ he had lernyd hym̛ þe furste vers of þis salme, ' Dixi custodiam vias meas,' he wolde not lern̛ þe secund vers nor no mor̛ þerof, bod sayd; ' Satis est,' it was enogℏ. "For," he said̛, "and I may fulfyƚƚ þis, it sufficies me." So afterwarde he was axkid̛ of his maister whi he come not at hym̛ ans in sex monethis, and he ansswerd̛ agayn̛ & said̛; "I hafe not yit fulfyllid þat wurde in dede." So long after he was axkid̛ if he had fulfillid̛ it, and he ansswerd̛ agayn̛ & sayd̛; "I hafe liffid̛ þis xliiij yeris, and yit vnnethis I can̛ fulfyƚƚ itt."
