Sancta vasa et vestes semper munde debent tractari.

We rede in 'Legend̛ Lombardica,' how Julianus Apostata on̛ a tyme, at Antioche, gadurd samen halud vesseƚƚ & halud clothis, and keste þaim samen & sett hym̛ down̛ vppon̛ þaim and dispisid̛ þaim with grete reprofe. And onone in þase placis he was so strekyn̛ als fer as þai tuchid hym̛, þat als lang as he liffid̛ after, wormes & mawkis bred in his flessℏ & eate it away. And of þat passion̛, ewhils he liffid̛, he mot neuer be delyverd̛. So afterward̛ þer was ane þat hight Julianus also, þat was his stewerd̛, and be commandment of þe emperour he tuke þies halod vesseƚƚ & pyssid̛ in þaim & sayd̛; "Lo! þies vesseƚƚ in þe whilk þe Son̛ of Marie was sacrificed̛, now I pis in þaim [MS. þeraim.] ."
