We rede in 'Gestis Iohannis Elemosinarij' when̛ Iohannes Elemosinarius, þat was patriark̘ of Alexander, vnto a pure man̛ þat axkid̛ hym̛ almos commandid̛ to be gyffen̛ v d̛ he had grete dedeyng at he wold̛ gyff hym̛ no more. And onone he feƚƚ at debate with hym̛, & began̛ to flite. And when̛ þe patriark servandis saw þis, þai wold̛ hafe betyn̛ hym̛.
