Iacobus de Vetriaco tellis how som tyme þer was ij pure
men̛, ane meke and̛ a noder prowde; bod þe meke
man̛, whare-so-evur þai berid̛ corn̛, he
wold̛ com̛ with his glofe & ask þaim itt
fuƚƚ, & no man̛ grucid̛ bot gaff hym̛. And
with-in a while he was a [MS. repeats, a.] r[i]che man̛.
And þe prowde pure man̛ wolde com̛ with a sekk̘
and ax corn̛. And þe gretnes of þe sakk flayed̛
ilk man̛ so and þai wolde giff hym̛ noght; and so he
was neuer bod a pure man̛.
