We rede in 'Vitis Patrum̛' how on̛ a tyme þe devuƚƚ said̛ vnto þe Abbott Macharie; "Go we vnto gaderyng samen of our̛ brethir." And he askid̛ hym̛ what he had at do with þe gaderyng samen of þaim, and þe fend ansswerd̛ hym̛ agayn̛ & said̛; "Knowis þou not at withouten̛ vs þer is no gaderyng? Com̛ and þou saƚƚ se our̛ besynes." And he went with hym̛ & saw, & þer was aƚƚ þe kurk̘ our as it had bene littyƚƚ men̛ of Ynde, & let þe monkis to make þer prayers, & turnyd þaim in wommen̛ liknes & made þaim thynke on̛ þaim, & samen þai garte slepe & be wery of þer prayers.
