Mercatores in empcione et vendicione frequenter
menciuntur vt lucrentur.
Cesarius tellis of ij cetisens of Colayn̛ confessid̛ þaim of ij maners of syns, & þe tane was leyng & þe toder manesweryng. And þai tolde þe preste þat with-outen̛ þies ij þai myght nowder by nor seƚƚ. And þe preste told̛ þaim at þies was grete synnys, bod he bad þaim vse þaim on̛ þis maner of wyse; "Furste lofe your gude as ye wiƚƚ giff it, and it saƚƚ be wele with you, I warand̛." And þai promysid̛ hym̛ þai sulde so doo þat yere. Bod be lettyng of þe devuƚƚ þat yere þai wan̛ no thyng, and at þe yere end̛ þai come vnto þe preste & tolde hym̛. And þe preste told̛ þaim at it was bod a temptacion̛ of þe fende, & bad þaim trow hym̛; bod he said̛, "Feste it faste in your mynde, and þink̘ at ye wiƚƚ kepe hit fro hens forwhard̛, and it saƚƚ be wele enogℏ with you." And so þai did̛, and with a few yeris þai war passand̛ riche men̛.
