Marie virginis horas deuote dicentes per ipsam

We rede in hur 'Meracles' how þer was a devowte clerk̘, and euer-ilk day he wolde say deuotelie þe howris of our Ladye. So his fadur & his moder dyed̛, and he was þer heir & had a grete heritage. So he was compellid̛ & cownceld̛ be his frendis to take hym̛ a wyfe, and so he did̛. & on̛ þe day at he was wed, as he went hamward̛ fro þe kurk̘, þer was ane abbay of our̛ Ladie in his way, & he had forgetten̛ to say his howris & went into þe abbay to say þaim, & sett hym̛ down̛ on his kneis befor̛ owr̛ Ladie & said̛ þaim. And sodanlie our̛ Ladie spak to hym̛ & said̛; "O, þou fule, & vnwise clerk! Whi forsakis þou me, þi best frend [MS. frendis.] , & takis a noder spowse?" And with þis wurdis he was gretlie compuncte & went hame & made a nend̛ of his weddyng. & att evyn̛ he lefte his wife & aƚƚ his lifelod̛, & went vnto þe abbay & made hym̛ a monke, & servid̛ God & our Ladie aƚƚ his life. et c̛.
