We rede in 'Our̛ Ladie Meracles' how som̛ tyme þer was a noble knyght of Kurkby þat was deuowte vnto our̛ Ladie, and on̛ a tyme as he went vnto þe were, he went in-to ane abbay þat was fowndid̛ of our̛ Ladie & was in his way, & þer he hard̛ mes. And when̛ ilk mes was done after oþer, & he for wurshup̛ of our Ladie wold̛ not go or he had hard̛ þaim aƚƚ, at þe laste he wente furtℏ of þis abbay & hastid̛ hym̛ vnto þis turnament. He mett meneya command̛ fro þe turnament, & aƚƚ was done; þai said̛ at he had foghten̛ manlelie in þe bateƚƚ & born̛ hym̛ passand̛ wele. And̛ þai stude stiƚƚ vnto aƚƚ come aboute, & ilk man̛ with a hale voyce commendid̛ & said̛ he had foghten̛ wurthelie. And þer come som̛ & offerd̛ þaim vnto hym̛ & said̛ þat he had̛ taken̛ þaim prisoners in þe bateƚƚ. So þe man̛ was discrete and purseyvid̛ how our Ladie had rewardid̛ hym̛, & he gaff vp aƚƚ werldlie þingis & servid̛ hur Son̛ & hur euer after whils he liffid̛.
