Lantgrauius Lowicus.
We rede how þat þis Lantgrauius Lowicus was a passand̛ grete tyrand̛ and a mysdoer. And agayn̛ þat he sulde dye he commawndid̛ þaim at was aboute hym̛ þat als tyte as he was dead̛ þai sulde clethe hym̛ in a monkis cowle of þe Ceustus ordur, bod not or he war dead̛; & so þai did̛. And when̛ he was so cled, one of his knyghtis lukid̛ opon̛ hym̛ & said̛ þus in skorn̛; "Lo! hym̛ þis is not now like my lord̛ in aƚƚ his vertues, ffor he was a wurthi knyght, & now he is a passand̛ gude monke & kepis his sylence passand wele." So his sawle was broght vnto þe prince of Heƚƚ syttand̛ opon̛ þe pytt bra, & he held̛ a copp̛ in his hand̛ & said̛ vnto hym̛; "Welcom̛, our̛ wele-belufid̛ frend̛! Shew hym̛," he said̛, "your chawmers!" And belife was shewid̛ hym̛ aƚƚ þe paynys. And þan̛ he sayd̛ vnto hym̛ agayn̛; "Drynk, frend̛, of my copp̛!" And þuf aƚƚ he war not [Not omitted, and added above the line.] welewillid̛ þerto, yit he was compellid̛ to drynk̘; and als sone as he had done þer come oute stynkkand flawmys oute of his ene, his nease-thrillis, & his eris. And after þis he said̛ vnto hym̛; "Now þou saƚƚ se my pitt þat is withouten̛ bothom̛." And belife it was opynd̛ & he casten̛ þerin.
