Helynandus tellis of þe Emperour Traiane, how on̛ a tyme when̛ he sulde go vnto bateƚƚ and lepid opon̛ his hors, a wedow come
& tuke hym̛ be þe fute; & with grete sorow & lamentacion̛ sho prayed̛ hym̛ at sho mott hafe right of þaim at had slayn̛ hur son̛ wronguslie. And sho said̛; "Sur! þou reingnes as emperour, & whi lattis þou me suffer þis fowle eniurie?" And he said̛ he sulde make it to be amendid̛ when̛ he come agayn̛; and sho askid̛ hym̛ how sho sulde do & he neuer come agayn̛, and he said̛ his successur sulde make hur to be asethid̛. And sho askid̛ hym̛ how scho sulde know þat; "and if he do," sho said̛, "whatt wiƚƚ þat profett the? And if no man̛ make me a sethe, yit þou erte dettur vnto me, & þou mon̛ be rewardid̛ aftir þi warkis. And þi successur is bon̛ for the, bod a noder mans rightwusnes saƚƚ not delyvir þe for þat at þou sulde hafe done þine awn̛ selfe." And with þies wurdis þis Emperour Traiane was somwhat movid̛ lightid̛ of his hors, and in his awn̛ person̛ he exsamynd̛ þe wedous cauce, & he comfurthid̛ hur & made hur to hafe a due satisfaccion̛ for hur hurte.
