Infernus. Infernalis pene consideracio inducit
hominem a[d] penitenciam.
Saynt Bede tellis in 'Gestis Anglorum' how þer was a man̛ þat was dead & restorid̛ agayn̛ vnto life, abowte þe yeris of our̛ Lord̛ cccc vj. And he was so ferd̛ for paynys þat he had sene, þat he fled in-to wyldernes, & þer biggid̛ hym̛ a ceƚƚ beside a grete watir. And he wolde gang in-to þe watir with his clathis on̛ vp to þe nek̘, and þan̛ he wold̛ com̛ vp̛ & latt þaim frese on̛ hym̛ vnto his flessℏ. And þan̛ onone he wolde go into a hate batℏ, & þus evur whils he liffid̛, he sufferd̛ ay þe tone after þe toder vnto he dyed̛. And when̛ þai [MS. þat.] att saw hym̛ reprovid̛ hym̛ whi he did so, he ansswerd̛ þaim agayn̛ & sayd̛; "And ye had sene þat I saw, ye wold̛ hafe done þe same with me þat I did̛." et c̛.
