Humilis pacienter conuicia tolerat

Saynt Gregor̛ tellis of a holie man̛ þat hight Constantinus, & he was passand̛ litle of person̛ & of a feble makyng. So on̛ a tyme a buxtus man̛ come fer fro vp o land̛ to se hym̛, and when̛ he saw hym̛, at he was so febuƚƚ & of so little a statur, he trowed not at it had bene he; notwithstandyng ilk man̛ tolde hym̛ at it was he. And he dispysid̛ hym̛ & skornyd̛ hym̛, & said̛; "I trowed̛ at þis man̛ had bene a grete man̛, and he hase nothyng of a man̛." And onone as þis holie man̛ hard̛, onone he hawsid̛ þis buxtos man̛ & said̛; "þou alonelie is he þat hase had in me þine een̛ oppyn̛ & sene me." Be þe whilk þing it is for to trow what meknes he had, þat so luffid̛ þis buxtus man̛ þat despysid̛ hym̛ & set hym̛ at noght befor̛; ffor be þe language at was sayd of hym̛ myght men̛ se what mekenes he had.
