We rede in 'Vitis [MS. Vitas.] Patrum' how on̛ a tyme when̛ Macharius went furtℏ of his ceƚƚ, þe devuƚƚ come on̛ hym̛ with a ley & walde hafe smetyn̛ hym̛, & he myght noght. And þan̛ he cried & said̛; "Thow Macharie ! Thow fastis oþer-while, & I am refresshid̛ with no maner of meate; & þou wakis oft-sithis, and I slepe neuer. And yit þi mekenes alonelie ouercommys me." ā.
