Hereticus recipiscens a combustione
liberatur.
Cesarius tellis þat in þe cetie of Attrabicens on̛ a tyme þer was takyn̛ many heretikis; and for drede of dead þai forsuke þer fals title. And þai wiƚƚ prufe þaim with a hate burnyng yrn̛, & þai þat war foun giltie war burnyd̛. And emangis þaim þer was a wurthi clerk̘, and þe bisshopp̛ entretid̛ hym̛ to lefe his heresie, and do penans þerfor̛. And he ansswerd̛ agayn̛ & sayd̛, he knew wele he had errid̛, bod it was to late to do penaunce. And þe bisshop̛ ansswerd̛ hym̛ agayn̛ & said̛, þat verray penans was neuer done ouer late. So þai callid̛ a preste, & he confessid̛ hym̛ of aƚƚ hys synys; & þe hate yrn̛ was in his hand̛, and be þe vertue of confession̛, aƚƚ þe hete of þe yrn̛ vanysshid̛ away, & þer it had burnyd̛ hym̛, sodanlie it helid̛ agayn̛. And þan̛ þai broght hym̛ befor̛ þe iuge, & tolde hym̛ þe matir, & lete hym̛ se how his hand̛ was byrnyd̛ & sodanlie in his confession̛ helid̛ agayn̛. And þus he was savid̛, and aƚƚ þe toder war dampned̛.
