Gulosi in cibarijs vetitis
MS. vetidis. contra deum vtuntur.
Cesarius tellis how þer was som tyme a wurthie man̛ þat hight Otto de Normu[n]borgis [Harl. MS. Normanburgis.] , þat made grevus accions ayeyns his neghburs; and sodanlie he was streken̛ with a grete sekenes, and he had a passand̛ payn̛ þer-with, ffor aƚƚ lentren̛ tyme he had sucℏ ane appetite to ete flessℏ, at he wold̛ not alonelie hold̛ hym̛ contente in etyng þerof hym̛ selfe, bod also he compellid̛ aƚƚ at was aboute hym̛ to do þe same. And when̛ he had done so aƚƚ þe lentren̛, and Gude Fryday come, his meneya spakk vnto hym̛ & sayd̛; "Sur, þis day is Gude Friday, & þe day of þe passion̛ of our̛ Lord̛, and þis day christen̛ men̛ liffis in abstinence; & þerfor̛ it is not lefuƚƚ to eat flessℏ as þis day." And he ansswerd̛ agayn̛ & sayd̛; "This day I saƚƚ ete fflessℏ as I hafe done hedirtoward̛." And so he did̛. And on̛ þe Pacℏ day it happend̛ mervaluslie with hym̛, for when̛ other trew crysten̛ peple ete flessℏ, evyn̛ be þe dome of almighti God̛ he tuke sucℏ ane vgsomnes with flessℏ, þat he mot not eate it, bod ete fyssℏ. & so he did̛ euer whils he liffid̛ after.
