Gloria mundi parum durat.

Esopus in 'Fabulis' tellis how þer was a hors þat was arayed̛ with a brydyƚƚ of gold̛, & a gay saddyƚƚ, & he mett ane ass þat was ladyn̛; & þis ass made hym̛ no reuerens, bod held̛ evyn̛ furtℏ his way. So þis prowde hors was wrothe þer-with, & said̛; "Bod at I will not vex my selfe, els I sulde sla þe with my hynder fete, becauce þou wolde not voyde þe way, & giff me rowm̛ to pass by þe." And when̛ þis ass hard̛ hym̛, sho made mekyƚƚ sorow.

So with-in a little while after, þis hors, þat was so gaylie cled̛, was wayke & lene, & had a sare gallid̛ bakk̘; & þe ass mett hym̛ vndernetℏ a carte, ledand̛ muke vnto þe felde: & þe ass was fayr & fatt. & þan̛ þe ass said̛ vnto hym̛; "Whar is now þi gay aray at þou was so prowde of? Now blissid̛ be God̛, þou erte put to þe same occupacion̛ at I vse, & yit my bak is haler þan̛ þyne. & þerfor̛ now þi gay gere helpis þe nott̛." et c̛.
