Fidelis seruus corpus suum pro domino suo
exponit.
Valerius tellis how som tyme þer was a man̛ þat hight Papulion̛ [Lat. MSS. Papinion.] , and be chance be þe peple he was condempnyd vnto dead̛. And þer was knyghtis sent be þe law to punyssℏ hym̛ after þe decre. And he had in his howse a servand̛ þat luffid̛ hym̛ hugelie wele, and when̛ he wiste at þies knyghtys war commen̛ to sla his maister, he did on̛ his maister clothyng, & putt on̛ his ryng on hys fynger, & put oute his maister at a postern̛, & went in-to his maister chawmer hym̛ selfe. And onone þies knyghtis come & fand hym̛ in þe chawmer, and þai went he had bene Papulion̛ hym̛ selfe, & slew hym̛ in-stede of his maister. et c̛.
