Iohannes Elemosinarius tellis how on̛ a day afterward̛, when̛ þis same Peirs was arayed̛ in þe beste clothyng at he had̛, a pure shipman̛ at was nere-hand̛ nakid̛ come vnto hym̛ & askid̛ hym̛ almos, & he gaff hym̛ his vppermeste garment̘. And when̛ he had it,
onone he sold̛ itt. And when̛ Peirs had knowlege þerof, he was somwhat trubblid̛ in his mynd̛ & said̛; "I was nott worthi at þis pure man̛ sulde were my clothe, nor hafe me in remembrance." And on̛ þe nyght after, when̛ he was on̛ slepe, he was war a man̛ þat was bryghter þan þe son̛, & hym̛ thoght he said̛ vnto hym̛; "Peirs, whi wepis þou? Knowis þou þis clothyng?" & he said̛; "Ya, sur." And our Lord̛ sayd̛ agayn̛ vnto hym̛; "þat clothyng at þou gaff þe pure man̛, þou gaff it me; and̛ þis is it at I am̛ cled in."
