We rede ex 'Dictis Patrum' þat þe abbott Iohn̛ was askid̛ whi he liffid̛ so straytelie emang his disciples, & gaff þaim so strayte chargis & commaundmentis, and he & þai bothe mott hafe commen̛ vnto hevyn̛ be other menys. And he made sorow & ansswerd̛ agayn̛ with grete wepyng, and̛ sayde; "In aƚƚ my life I did neuer myne awn̛ wiƚƚ, nor I taght nevur no man̛ to do noght bod at I did̛ my selfe befor̛."
