vnto so mekuƚƚ at halfe þe meatt at he had euere day, he wold̛ dele it vnto pure men̛ in wurshup̛ [MS. repeats, in wurshup̛.] of Saynt Nicholas; & euer he made his prayers vnto hym̛. So on̛ a tyme Saynt Nycholas aperid̛ vnto hym̛ in habett & lyknes of a fayr olde man̛, and bad hym̛ dryfe hys shepe hame. And he said̛ his huswyff wold̛ be wrothe þan̛, for it was ouer [Harl. MS. quia nimis mane est.] tymelie of þe day. And þis Say[nt] [MS. Say.] command̛ hym̛ to do as he bad hym̛, & sayd̛; "Son̛, þis day saƚƚ þou dye, & þerfor̛ make þe redie, & go home & take þi sacramentis; ffor I am̛ Saynt Nicholas at þou hase bene devote to, & I wiƚƚ rewarde the." And he went home; & his dame was wrathe & blamyd̛ hym̛. And he sayd̛ he had myster to com̛ home, ffor he mond̛ dye þat same day And his huswyffe trowed̛ þat he had bene fond̛ & at he had sene som̛ þing in þe feld̛, and prayed̛ þe prest to inquere hym̛ þeroff. And he tolde þe preste of aƚƚ his vision̛, and he tuke his sacramentis of holy kurk̘ and dyed̛; and̛ his saule went vnto hevyn̛.
