Decanus ad inferni curiam inuitatur.
Cesarius tellis how þat in tyme of Hereticus [Latin MSS. Tempore Henrici imperatoris.] þe Emperour, in þe kurk of Palernens was þer a certan̛ dean̛ þat sent a servand̛ of his to seke a palfray of his þat hym̛ wantid̛; & þer mett ane ald̛ man̛ þis servand̛ & askid̛ hym̛ whedir he went & whatt he soght. And he said̛ he soght his maister hors. And þis ald man̛ teld̛ hym̛ þat þis hors was att þe Mownte of Gybber; "and þer," he sayd̛, "hase my lord̛ kyng Arthur hym̛. And þat mownte byrnys evur on̛ a grete low as it war fuƚƚ of burned-stone." And þis servand̛ had grete mervayle of his wurdis, and þe alde man̛ said vnto hym̛; "Saw vnto þi maister & charge hym̛ at þis day xiiij dayes he com̛ thedur vnto Kyng Arthur solempne courte. And if þou forgett & teƚƚ hym̛ nott, þou saƚƚ be grevuslie punysshid̛ þerfor̛." And þis servand̛ went home & told̛ his maister aƚƚ at he sayd̛ vnto hym̛ with grete ferdnes. And when̛ þe dean̛ hard̛ att he was sommond̛ vnto þe courte of Arthur, he logℏ þerat & made a skorn̛ þerof. And onone he feƚƚ seke, & þe same day att he was somond̛ he dyed̛. et c̛.
