CCXXXIX.
Decipiuntur aliqui quia aliquando non inueniunt
quod querunt.
We rede in 'Libro de Dono Timoris,' how þer was a lord̛ þat had a fule, & þis lorde had also a gay falcon̛ & a swyfte, þer was [bod] sucℏ one in aƚƚ þat land̛. And ilk man̛ at saw it fle commendid it & praysid it. So þis fole hard̛ at ilk man̛ commendid̛ þis falcon̛ so, and privalie on̛ a nyght he gat þis falcon̛ of his lordis & slew itt, and sothe itt, & ete itt. And when̛ þe lord̛ myssid̛ þis hawke, he made grete sorow þerfor, becauce he wiste nott how it was loste. And he commendid it gretelie in presens of þis fule; and when̛ þe fule hard̛ hym̛ commend it so, he ansswerd̛ & sayd̛; "Forsuthe lord̛, it dught nott; ffor I ete neuer bitterer flessℏ þan̛ it was." And so þis fule fand̛ a noder þing þan̛ he trowid̛.
