Credendum non est de facili referentibus aliorum
defectus.
We rede ex 'Dictis Patrum,' þat a certan̛ religious man̛ on̛ a tyme said̛ vnto þe abbott Pastor, þat he was so trubbled̛ att hym̛ burd̛ lefe his place, becauce at he hard̛ certan̛ wurdis of a bruther of his þat hym̛ thoght plesyd hym̛ noght. And þis Abbott bad hym̛ at he suld̛ nott trow þies wurdis, for þai wer not trew. And þe toder said̛ þai wer trew, for a trew broder of his tolde hym̛ þaim; and þe abbott sayd he was not trew at told̛ hym̛, ffor he sayd̛, & he had bene a trew bruther he sulde noght hafe said̛ so. And þan̛ he askid̛ hym̛ of þe balke & þe mote, what þai wer; and he told̛ hym̛ whatt þai war. And þan̛ he bad hym̛ vmthynk hym̛ in his awn̛ harte þat þis balk was his awn̛ synys, and þis litle mote was þe synnys of þe toder man̛.
