consideracio perpetuitatis pene infernalis.
Fulco [Arund. MS. Fulco Marsilensis: episcopus Tholosamus. Harl. MS. Fulco Marsilione: episcopus Tholosanus.] telles how þat Marciliensis þat was bisshopp of Tholosan̛ told̛ of hym̛ selfe; "when̛ I was yong & giffen̛ vnto vanyties of þis werld̛, I began̛ ans sodanlie [to think] of þe evurlastyngnes of þe payn̛ of heƚƚ, and̛ I said̛ in my harte; `and it war putt vnto þe to lig alway in a softe bed̛ & a delicatt, so þat in no maner of wise þou sulde pas oute þerof, and þou might not suffer þatt, how may þou þerfor̛ sustene in þe euerlastand̛ bitter payn̛ of heƚƚ, if it happen̛ þe to be dampnyd̛ thedur?' And be þis occasion̛ I lefte aƚƚ þingis and made me a monke."
